The Baltic Sea is one of the most polluted seas in the world. This affects\u00a0its\u00a0balance of biodiversity and creates an impact on the already sensitive marine environment.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The\u00a0cultivation of algae could be one possible solution regarding the issues of\u00a0eutrophication. Algae farming doesn’t need land, water\u00a0or\u00a0nutrients.\u00a0\u00a0Using algae as the basis for my explorations, I am investigating how\u00a0material can be produced from algae\u00a0within different products connected to food.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In collaboration with\u00a0Under ytan<\/em>, a company cultivating algae locally\u00a0on\u00a0\u00c5land, I have designed tableware made from and for\u00a0algae-based\u00a0food.\u00a0Using the framework of\u00a0the set table,\u00a0I explore\u00a0algae in a local context and reflect\u00a0upon\u00a0the usage of algae in marine restoration. The set table is full of symbols regarding culture, history, life and\u00a0festivals.
