In 2005, the restaurant Landet opened in the old post office in Telefonplan. The interior, designed by newly graduated design students from Konstfack, became a carefully planned whole with an evocative atmosphere of bold colour choices and unconventional materials on a tight budget and few square meters. Landet, the area’s first neighbourhood restaurant in what was then a working-class suburb with only a pizzeria, became and still is an important hub and meeting place for food, parties, and live music. The restaurant looks exactly as it did when it opened and stands out from the rest of the area, which is now drowning in a sea of hamburger chains and sushi joints.

Landet’s current restaurant manager commissioned me to design two luminaires to hang over the restaurant’s first-floor seating area by the window facing the street. In this part of the restaurant, there is a need for atmospheric dim light that illuminates the sofa groups slightly and gives an inviting feeling to both passersby and the restaurant’s guests. In my process, I have explored forms that relate to the existing interior and also add something new and unique to manage and enhance the restaurant interior. Based on the keywords: “Tivoli chandelier,” cute community house on the countryside, cocky and glowing, I have worked with a modern interpretation of a classic chandelier with humorous details that hope to evoke curiosity and start conversations.
