Ida Netterberg
I create objects inspired by the western ornamental tradition. You can see my work as a complement to the architecture of our time. It can take the shape of a festoon referencing classicism or a chandelier inspired by the baroque style. My work often carries a symbolic language and I have an interest in its spiritual content. I combine free sculpting with press plaster moulds. I work mostly with porcelain but also in stoneware. My interest in ornamentation began when I realised there was something taboo about this subject. I was drawn to ornamented things, but for some reason it was difficult to include them in my practice. It felt forbidden and that made me interested in exploring why something decorative and seemingly harmless could generate such strong feelings. In the spatial setting, I want to present something that is in contrast to the functional architecture of Konstfack and create a more spiritual atmosphere.
