Malin Pierre

My design contains glass, wood and textile and is inspired by haute couture. The contrast between the soft and hard is central in my expression. I explore the potential in different materials and crafts techniques and use them to transform one another. My approach is intuitive and experimental and I am fascinated by material and its surface, weight and tactility. Through my artistic practice, I create material displacements, from the soft fabric to the hard but fragile glass, and expand expectations of the experience of glass. The core of my work lies in uniting the inherent contradictions that exist in a medium that is neither liquid nor solid. Glass lies on a plane somewhere between the two states of matter.

In my work, I have sought to dissolve the dichotomy between the podium and the sculpture and create a whole by exploring how different encounters between materials help to strengthen and complete each other.
