Architecture and furniture design share a fundamental connection, each informing and inspiring the other. As a cabinet maker and architect, I have come to appreciate this connection deeply. In this project, I aimed to explore this relationship further by studying the exterior architecture of Midsommargården in Telefonplan, Stockholm. I used the building as inspiration for designing and building furniture.
Growing up in Hägersten, Midsommargården has been presence in my life for many years. Over the years, I have developed a deep appreciation for the building’s architecture and choice of details, which have captured my attention. Through this project, I delved deeper into the design elements of Midsommargården and materialised my observations and experiences of the building into furniture.
To achieve my desired expression and atmosphere, I used an iterative design method where the material guided me forward.
