What determines when someone dares to speak their mind? I have asked students and young adults what they think about topics that are difficult to talk about and what it takes to dare to speak up. During the process I have tried to understand how we can use the students’ thoughts in our everyday lives as teachers, artists and citizens. To document the complexity, I made a video work that was shown at the Spring Exhibition. (picture 1)
As part of the degree project, I and four other students from the teaching program have organized a symposium to create a platform where didactic conversations can be held and explored together with guests and the audience. I invited university lecturer Karin K. Flensner, art teacher Ida Kriisa and social studies teacher Linn Santesson to a panel discussion about why it is difficult to teach controversial subjects.
