Student Simulation 2.0 – 16 y/o for a Day, is an animated simulation of a computer game where the “player” assumes the role of a sixteen-year-old student. The game involves creating a character and starting to play the first level, “School”. Different choices need to be made, but the problem arises when the game does not really allow the player to make the choices they actually want to make.

My animation is a portrayal of how student participation is allowed or restricted in different schools. The “player,” who is not allowed to interact with the game, experiences the perspective of the student and engages in dialogue with other characters. What interests me about my video work is how all the characters involved, the “player,” the student, and the teacher, relate to each other. All dialogue in the game is inspired by conversations I have had with students and teachers for my study, which deals with student participation.

The design theme I have chosen for my animation is old PC games, graffiti, and street art. The feeling I have strived to visualize is nostalgic memories of youth.
