– A Call for Knowledge about Domestic Violence in the Field of Architecture and in Society

The most dangerous place for a woman is her own home. Over 50 cases of abuse against women in the home are reported in Sweden daily. On average, a man in Sweden kills a woman he has (or had) a relationship with every three weeks. A societal and human commitment can be the difference between life and death, but the responsibility is still placed on the woman. It is time to direct the focus away from the woman towards the men, you, me, and society.

Architects and interior architects have long known how we create safe public spaces in outdoor environments. But the fact is that only 15% of all reported rapes are committed in outdoor environments, so-called assault rapes. The remaining 85% of reported rapes occur in their own home. The fields of architecture and interior architecture should know about domestic violence and take this information into account. Home is Where Her Horror is raises awareness and informs visitors about men’s violence against women through art, performance, and spatial design to create reactions that lead to action.
