Preserve Through Renewal
Maria Halling

Design evolution as a method for architectural survival

To foster good living environments and sustainable building practices, we should protect cultural values and positive qualities in the already-built environment. At the same time, we need to evaluate if the existing architecture meets current and future needs.

In my degree project, I analyze an existing building in Flemingsberg, and the development plans I do not believe embrace the building’s architectural identity. By translating design elements and a hypothetical future context, I intend to create a design that conveys the essence of the original but with new spatial contexts—liberal preservation of architecture through renewal.
