Ciara Neufeldt
My degree project is centred on the aim of infusing everyday life with moments of joy, through tactile interaction with my work. I want to invite others to connect more deeply with their surroundings and to create experiences that are uplifting.
Equally, I am interested in the intersection between craft and somatics. By emphasising bodily awareness as a tool for understanding our surroundings, my practice invites deeper engagement with the sensory and emotional dimensions of our experiences.
I employ a contemporary approach to the Japanese ceramic technique of Nerikomi. Coloured clay is a medium which provides a rich visual language and allows me to create bright, playful patterns. My use of gold adornment further elevates the objects I create, allowing them to transcend the mundane and transform the spaces and objects we encounter in our daily lives.
Through my work, I want to highlight the importance of connecting with our senses and of finding moments of happiness in our everyday environments.
