Rite of Passage
Kajsa Rönnholm

Rite of Passage is a personal reflection on the origin of ideas; symbols and what they speak of; materials and ways to work them. The themes of my sculptures are childhood and memories; what we lose when growing up and who we become.

I am driven by my hands’ desire to learn to handle new techniques and to get to know more materials. The more intelligence my hands maintain, the richer I feel. I have a close relationship with my sculptures, I would almost say that I am my sculptures and that my sculptures are me. We have spent countless hours together, searching for what has been lost, what is yet to be found, each other, and our own cores. Apart from the sculptures’ more illustrative themes they also speak about shiftings, in scale, material, and time.
