The Market of Happiness
Matilda Karlsson

We currently consume as if we had 4.2 planets in Sweden. This raises the question of whether we really understand that we are in a global crisis.

The Market of Happiness is a fictive shopping experience set in a not far away future. In this scenario, it has been decided that products will be sold and marketed in another way; a receipt stating the biodiversity cost of your purchase is presented to you. The consequences are real and are happening today. The aim of my degree project is to highlight the impossibility of constant growth (the capitalist system) and show how our ecosystems are out of balance.

In The Market of Happiness, the decision is left with the end-consumer. But the project as a whole raises the question of what political initiatives we will need to implement to reach the necessary climate goals. Without biodiversity our food supplies and economy will collapse.
